Specialty Dentures
More secure, more comfortable, more like your real teeth.
More Than Just “Dentures”
If you've worn traditional dentures, you know the issues. They slip when you talk. They click when you eat. They require messy adhesive every morning. Sometimes they hurt. And the foods you used to love become things you avoid.
Specialty dentures are different. By using dental implants or other modern techniques, we can give you a denture that stays put, feels secure, and lets you live like you have your real teeth back.
Types of Specialty Dentures
Dr. Carroll offers several specialty options, depending on your situation:
Implant-Supported Overdentures
These snap onto two or more dental implants in your jaw. They feel much more secure than regular dentures, but you can still remove them at night for cleaning. A common upgrade from traditional dentures and a real game-changer for most people.
Fixed Implant Dentures
A full set of replacement teeth permanently attached to four to six implants. These never come out — you brush and floss them just like real teeth. The most natural-feeling option available.
Immediate Dentures
Placed the same day your remaining teeth are extracted, so you never go a day without teeth. They serve as a temporary while your gums heal, and we make a permanent set after healing is complete.
Mini Implant Dentures
A smaller, more affordable implant option that can stabilize your existing or new dentures. Often a great fit when full-size implants aren't an option due to bone loss.
Why Patients Make the Switch
The benefits of upgrading from traditional dentures to a specialty option are significant:
- No more slipping, clicking, or wobbling
- No need for messy denture adhesives
- Eat foods you've been avoiding for years
- Speak more clearly and confidently
- Helps prevent bone loss in your jaw
- Feels more like your real teeth
- Easier to clean and maintain
What to Expect
Every patient is different, but here's the general flow:
- 1We start with a consultation and take 3D X-rays to evaluate your jawbone and plan exactly where any implants would go.
- 2If you need implants, those are placed first. There's a healing period of a few months while they integrate with your jaw.
- 3Once everything's healed, your custom denture is fitted, attached to the implants, and adjusted for the perfect bite.
- 4You go home with a denture that finally fits the way it should.
Dr. Carroll uses 3D imaging to plan implant placement with precision before any surgery happens.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between specialty dentures and regular dentures?
Regular dentures rest on your gums and rely on suction or adhesive to stay in place. Specialty dentures — like implant-supported or overdentures — use dental implants or other anchors for a much more secure, comfortable fit. They don't slip, click, or require messy adhesives.
Are specialty dentures removable?
Some are, some aren't. Implant-supported overdentures snap onto the implants and can be removed for cleaning. Fixed implant dentures are permanently attached and only removed by Dr. Carroll. We'll talk through which option fits you best.
How long does the process take?
It varies. Immediate dentures can be placed the same day teeth are extracted. Implant-supported dentures take longer — typically 3 to 6 months while the implants integrate with your jawbone. Dr. Carroll will give you a personalized timeline.
Will I be able to eat normally?
Yes — and that's one of the biggest reasons people upgrade to specialty dentures. Because they're anchored securely, you can chew foods that traditional dentures struggle with, like apples, steak, and corn on the cob.
If your dentures don't fit the way they used to — or if you're facing tooth loss and looking for a long-term solution — let's talk. There are more options than ever, and we'll help you find the one that fits your life.
